Our house is just recovering from being very sick. We caught the awful cold and it really made me stop and think how much I take my health for granted. If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything. This flu has made me slow down and really focus on what I am putting into my body.
When I got pregnant with Arctic I became very conscious of what I was eating. I made it my goal to consume food that nourishes me and to try and intake less processed food. I have been plant based for ten years and I hope to raise Arctic the same way!
I focus on feeding Arctic a wide variety of plant based foods. I pay special attention to iron and calcium. I was able to pump for ten months so she was a breastfed baby. We have since then switched to soy formula.
Her very first food was watermelon and her initial reaction was no thank you! After a few weeks we introduced iron fortified chia baby cereal. Since then we have slowly introduced a variety of foods. I started with fruit and vegetable purees. I steamed a variety of fruits and vegetables then froze them. I introduced each food one by one to see if she had an allergic reaction. I then started to mix them! One of Arctics favourites was apple and zucchini. When we are out and about I pack a Love Child Organics puree! Arctic really loves the banana, coconut, pumpkin, pears and quinoa one. I have her book as well, It All Begins with Food. It was wonderful recipe ideas!
Today Arctic literally sings and dances she gets so excited to eat! So here is what she eats..
Coconut Yogurt, Peanut Butter & Hemp Seeds
Green Smoothie- Kale, Spinach,Frozen Banana,Almond Milk
Tropical Smoothie- Mango, Orange Juice, Frozen Banana
LUNCH / DINNER
Tofu & Tomato Sauce
Brocoli, Hemp Hearts and Hummus
If you are wondering “How do you get protein, calcium and iron into your babies diet?”
