I remember before I had a baby just hopping in my car and going in and out of wherever I needed to go. These days even a walk to a local coffee shop requires a diaper bag, stroller, blankets..the list goes on! I am the type of person who likes to be on time and organized. These days I start preparing to leave the house an hour before I have to and it seems right before its time to leave the dog needs to go outside and the baby needs a full outfit change! So traveling with a baby was giving me anxiety….
We recently went on an adventure with our family to Parksville, B.C. It is the type of place that reminds me of my childhood summers. The days feel endless and you spend every second outdoors. We stayed at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Resort. The resort has spectacular ocean front beaches , surrounded by forest with a mountain views.
My sister in law and I went to the Grotto Spa. It is an absolute dream. We received the Acai Emulsion Body Wrap. I have felt so exhausted adjusting to sleepless nights with the baby. It was the first time I felt completely relaxed in a long time. After the treatment we were able to spend time in the gorgeous mineral pool.
Traveling with a baby went surprisingly well! We packed the Dock-A-Tot. I find that Arctic is familiar with sleeping in this cozy space and so no matter where we travel she has a safe place to sleep. The stroller was perfect for exploring Parksville. We have an Uppa Baby Vista which is a great city stroller but a jogging stroller would of been a little bit better for trail walking and getting to certain beaches. I exclusively pump to feed the baby so the Medela Double Pump is a life savour for me. The very best part of the trip was traveling with our family so having extra arms to hold, play and cuddle with the baby! It truly takes a village and we are so grateful to have family to go on adventures with.
The first day we visited Spider Lake. It was clear and warm with plenty of areas to relax in the shade or sunshine. The second day we visited Horne Lake which is crystal clear with mountains surrounding it. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Butterfly World. It was like being in a tropical rain forest and as you walk through massive indigo blue butterflies float by. I can’t wait to bring Arctic back when she is older so she can experience this magical place. Right across the road is a farm which I can not remember the name of. They had children give farm tours and introduce the animals to us! I think it is such a wonderful way to teach kids about the animals and having responsibility around the farm. The cutest fainting goats and majestic horses live on this farm. We spent a lot of time at the Tigh-Na-Mara. They have wonderful beaches, a pool, hot tub, restaurants and even a giant game of chess to play. There is tennis courts, basketball courts and the best part is they are pet friendly! It truly has something for everyone and we will defiantly be back!
We hope one day to have a cabin there so we can spend summers splashing in the ocean, eating ice cream, visiting farm animals and truly enjoying the simple things.
